Fun with fonts.

For years I have wanted to create my own font. I decided now was the time. I found my book about the Danish designer Engelhardt, downloaded Glyph Mini, and started a moodboard.

Then I stopped. I often get too ambitious with my projects, and I work with slow processes every day. So for personal projects, I scope them to a few evenings, plus one for wrap-up if it is something I would like to share.

I also work on my urge not to contaminate my hobbies with content disease. I should choose to draw for the sake of drawing, not because I think it would perform well.

Back to fonts. Instead of evenings spent with a mouse in Glyph Mini, I opted for calligraphr.com and pen (and printed pages) for the entire family.

It was fun, and now I have captured my kids' handwriting. Maybe it should be a yearly thing. (See! I always turn it into something big.)

The point I would like to make: If you decided to work as a digital creative, you might, like me, have done it out of passion. Don’t let work stop you from having fun with creation. But also, don’t feel you need to do personal projects.
